Welcome to Our Chapter!

The Chicagoland Chapter of the National Association of Watch & Clock Collectors, Inc., is a non-profit and scientific association that was founded in 1943 and now serves the horological interests of more than 30,000 members around the world. The Chicagoland Chapter has been in existence since 1947 and was initially known as the Midwest Region Chapter. Chapter 3 – Chicagoland as it is currently known, is a non-profit organization having members residing in the Chicago megalopolis and throughout the United States sharing common interests in all aspects of horology: timepieces, history, repair, and how time keeping has affected cultures. An attractive newsletter is emailed monthly to promote our events.  It includes news, current events, advertisements, and at times, provides stories of intriguing interest. Chicagoland Chapter 3 is dedicated to support the entry level hobbyist and the advanced professional alike.

Chapter 3 meets six times during the year. Each meeting begins with introductory remarks followed by an open mart. Four of six meetings during the year feature an educational program which follows the mart. The month of May offers an opportunity for an outdoor tailgate mart located in the parking lot of our meeting location. In December, the final mart of the year, includes a celebratory holiday luncheon.  The meeting dates for 2024 are: February 4, April 7, May 4 (Tailgate), September 8, October 27, and December 8.  Our meetings are held at the Delta Hotels by Marriott, located at 310 West Butterfield Rd, Elmhurst, Illinois.  Dues are nominally priced at $15.00 per year, and checks should be made payable to CHICAGOLAND CHAPTER 3.  Admission charge to meetings is also $15.00 per person. What We Do

The Chicagoland Chapter is dedicated to the support of the beginner hobbyist and professional alike. The Chapter hosts meetings in which neighboring chapters are invited to participate [details below]. Our chapter coordinates with our nearby chapters to avoid conflicting dates to insure greater participation. Chapter 3’s objective is to provide an opportunity for fellowship and to motivate our members and adjacent chapters to share in our passion of horology.

Chicago is a world-class city and is a meeting point for many horology enthusiasts. Most major airlines serve our two major airports and with the central location of the city, it is an easy interstate drive from most of the midwest to our city.

The Chapter has one holiday social gathering in December of each year. All members are welcome to join in the festivities.

Below are some pictures from Chapter 3 events in 2023.

01

02

Pictures #1 & 2 – John Bruzan provides a splendid presentation on his unique creation of a Tower Clock.

03

Picture # 3 – John describes the model he used before he created the frame of the tower clock. In the background of the picture, you will observe sand castings that he used to create the gears for the clock in his foundry located in the garage. Other clock parts duplicates are also seen on the table which John created.

04

Picture #4 - A wonderful turnout on a beautiful day as members peruse through horological items at our February meeting at our past meeting site in Willowbrook, Illinois.

05

Picture #5 – Another look at our Chapter 3 – Mart in September 2023. While the location of the Chapter 3 mart was in transition due to a situation beyond our control, that didn’t stop our membership as they continued to participate, this time in Burr Ridge, Illinois.

06

Picture #6 – In November 2023, the Chapter 3 moved to Elmhurst, Illinois, where we had our best attendance in 7 years. A total of 115 participated. The Elmhurst American Legion Hall was previously the site for Chapter 3 Marts and Meetings from February 2005, until September 2020.

07

Picture #7 – Another view of the November mart showing a wide variety of clocks, watches, and clock parts. Chapter 3 and its membership is pleased to return to the Elmhurst site after being away since 2020.

The mart offers an opportunity for our members to buy and sell general horological items such as ephemera, tools, parts, and complete watches and/or clocks. Many of our members bring in a sampling of their collections to view, sell, or trade during the mart.  Brief announcements on chapter activities are given during the mart to heighten participation and create a comfortable environment. Finally, our presentations run the spectrum from "How to Repair a Modern Watch Movement" to "The Internet and Horology: How to locate, value, and dispose of your item." As our website progresses, look for photo highlights that review the many facets of our events.

If you have an interesting piece of information that you would like to see or share on this site, please email the site administrator at the bottom of the page.
