12 Great Reasons to Join Chapter One!

Chapter One is very proud of its long and esteemed history. Founded in 1945, it is the oldest chapter affiliated with the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors. Chapter One is dedicated to its membership. We welcome all NAWCC members and their guests, regardless of interest or skill level.

Membership Cost: $10 per year

1) We pride ourselves in being the most educationally innovative Chapter in the NAWCC if not the nation. We welcome any and all persons who share our love of Clocks and Watches. We also offer the following programs and activities to entice fellow lovers to join us:

2) We hold six meetings a year, each one has 40 – 45 Mart tables where hundreds of clocks, watches, horological tools and books are bought, sold or traded.

3) We feature lectures by noted Horologists at every meeting. These lectures promulgate the history, theory, and art of time keeping from the earliest beginning of recorded time to the present.

4) We have a “Hands On, One day Class” workshop that teaches both watch and clock repairing and restoration techniques at every meeting. This class is taught by a certified Field Suitcase Workshop Instructor.

5) At every meeting we also feature a “Demonstration Workshop” that introduces new aspects of the arts and science of horology.

6) We encourage the membership to expand their horological horizons with “Best In Show Contest”. This event encourages members to bring in examples of Clocks, Watches, Tools or any item that furthered the Horological arts. These items are exhibited and their significance to the field explained, the membership then vote on the one in each category that they feel is the “best in the Show”. The winner of each category receives a cash prize.

7) We feature both a Watch and a Clock “Open Bench Program ” where members with repair problems or other issues can get the advice and help from experienced watch and clock repair-persons.

8) We have a “What’s new at the NAWCC Library” segment at every meeting. This program introduces to the membership all new Horological books, pamphlets and articles acquired by the Library, the largest and most comprehensive research facility in the United States.

9) We sponsor two $500 scholarships each year to students pursuing studies in horology. These scholarships are awarded to persons of all ages and in any accredited course or school of horology.

10) Philadelphia Chapter One Meetings provide an excellent opportunity for those interested in Clocks and Watches in any form to interact and commune with 100 – 150 of their fellow enthusiasts during the Mart and over a sit down buffet luncheon.

11) Our Chapter sponsors larger venues for bringing clock and watch buyers and sellers together for the benefit of the professional as well as the amateur collector. These larger venues often contain 300 to 400 tables.

12) We contribute intellectually, monetarily, and with actual objects to Horological exhibitions both locally and nationally.
